I love kids. I love kids, and they drive me crazy, and they make me want to cry, and they make me yell. But I love kids. I’m so thankful to have three siblings under the age of 10, as well as have the opportunity to work with kids at our gym.
Kids teach you a lot. Not intentionally. Not because they think you will benefit from the information they’re giving you. No. Kids teach you so much doing the simple things they do every day. They teach you all of the things that you forgot as you became an adult. They teach you things that affect how you live your life. Sure, they might come to you and tell you that they know how to count to 47 in French (something you probably didn’t know prior to having the conversations with them) or the scientific name for a duck. That stuff is cool too. But the stuff I’m talking about is remembering that it’s okay to cry. Remembering that it’s okay to ask questions and be curious about things you don’t know. They teach you about patience and about love. They remind you that sometimes you just have to stop for a second and get it all together. They teach you to watch your mouth. They make you dig deep about what you should say next.
Kids are beautiful. Kids are loving. Kids will push you to the brink of losing your marbles then bring you back to a hug in a matter of seconds.
I think we should all learn from kids. We should all be reminded of our innocent creative being that’s within us.
“The best way to make children good is to make them happy.”
– Oscar Wilde
