I decided that I wanted to change my life for the better. I decided that I was tired of living the same sad life that I’d been living and that I needed to adjust a lot of things. I knew that it would be positive for me, and I knew it would be difficult, but I completely underestimated the problems that would come along.
First thing, there will be tears. There will be a lot of tears. You will constantly feel uncomfortable and wish that you could return to your comfort zone but that zone will no longer be comfortable to you either. Because of that, you will cry. You will feel alone and awkward and stuck between a rock and a hard place and for this reason, you will shed many tears.
Then there really comes the change. You will lose people in your life. You will realize that some of the people you know are good people but their paths no longer correspond with yours. You’ll (hopefully) wish that they are happy and progressive, but no longer with you in their lives. For this reason, you’ll probably shed more tears.
Then comes the negativity. Maybe from people you know, maybe people you don’t know. Sometimes this negativity comes from within. People (and yourself) will say mean things that make you want to quit and will hurt your feelings. If you’re anything like me, this too will make you cry.
But with all of that said, you will see the little moments that remind you of why you’re changing. You will notice how you interact with people and suddenly appreciate that more. You will begin to view yourself in a much brighter, less-judgmental light. You will remember that you are important and making yourself a priority doesn’t make you selfish. You will appreciate more. You will feel more. You will enjoy more.
Change is not easy. Change is not always fun. But change is constant. You’re allowed to change for your own happiness. Tough it out, keep going, and remember that you can do it.
“Progress is impossible without change, and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything.”
– George Bernard Shaw
This is amazing and I am so incredible proud of you and inspired to take the challenge of challenging yourself to grow is work in itself and then to accept that harsh truths. You are on a great path and I will follow it!
